A Cleaner Ocean Starts With Us
RC Metro Delta Joins International Coastal Clean-Up 2026 at SM By the Bay
September 19, 2026
On September 19, 2026, volunteers gathered at SM By the Bay for the International Coastal Clean-Up 2026, coming together for a simple but meaningful act: cleaning our shoreline.
For RC Metro Delta, the activity was more than picking up litter. It was an opportunity to put service into action and remind ourselves that protecting the environment begins with the choices we make every day.
With every piece of waste collected, volunteers saw firsthand how small individual actions can contribute to a much larger responsibility. A bottle, a food wrapper, a piece of plastic—each item removed from the shoreline represented one less piece of waste that could find its way into our waterways and eventually into the ocean.
Service Begins With Action
Environmental protection can sometimes feel like a challenge too large for one person or one organization to solve. But community activities such as the International Coastal Clean-Up show what can happen when people choose to act together.
Volunteers gave their time, energy, and effort to help care for a shared space. Beyond the cleanup itself, the activity encouraged greater awareness of the importance of responsible waste disposal and environmental stewardship.
For RC Metro Delta, this reflects the spirit of Service Above Self—not simply talking about change, but participating in the work that makes change possible.
More Than a Clean Shoreline
A clean shoreline is visible. The impact of environmental awareness, however, can extend much further.
When people become more conscious of what they consume, what they throw away, and how their everyday actions affect the environment, the impact continues beyond a single cleanup activity.
That is why environmental service must be viewed not only as a one-day effort, but as part of a continuing commitment to responsible communities and a healthier planet.
The experience also reinforces an important lesson: we do not have to wait for someone else to begin.
We can start where we are.
We can start with one shoreline.
We can start with one responsible choice.
Creating Lasting Impact
The International Coastal Clean-Up 2026 brought people together around a common purpose, but its message goes beyond September 19.
A cleaner ocean starts with us.
It starts with choosing not to litter.
It starts with reducing unnecessary waste.
It starts with proper disposal.
It starts with educating others.
And it starts with communities working together.
RC Metro Delta is proud to be part of an effort that turns these simple principles into action.
As Rotarians and community partners, we believe that meaningful service is not measured only by what we accomplish in a single day, but by the awareness we create, the relationships we build, and the practices we inspire others to continue.
Every shoreline deserves care.
Every community has a role to play.
And every one of us can make a difference.
Together, let us create lasting impact, one shoreline, one community, and one responsible action at a time.
